Physical Education
In PE at Dornoch academy pupils are encouraged and taught how to develop their physical, mental, social and emotional skills through a wide and broad variety of activities. Pupils are given the opportunity throughout their curriculum stages to take part in a range of extracurricular activities and competitions linked with our partner schools. Pupils are also offered the opportunity to engage in wider achievement programs such as the young ambassador program, the saltire awards, the sport captain which all give them the tools and skills required to become young leaders. We are very lucky to have strong links to local partnership that enable us to broaden and enrich our pupils’ experiences in PE. We offer in rotation, blocks of lessons in a variety of sports during their BGE phase, where we also liaise with local coaches/clubs for curricular and extracurricular activities. We find this fosters an enthusiasm for sports that pupils can then join in out of school time.

Homework Requirements
From S1 onwards all pupils are required to come to school with adequate PE kits to change into for lessons (tshirt/jumper/shorts/leggings/joggers/trainers/socks).
All pupils are expected to spend time practicing the sports they have selected to take at National 5 and Higher out with lesson time. They also must work on their theoretical knowledge to successfully complete their National 5 coursework portfolio and their Higher exam. Revision sessions and support can be sought throughout the year for our senior pupils.
Assessment Details
BGE pupils are informally assessed throughout each lesson, they receive verbal feedback and are taught to self-assess and peer assess. They also receive formal assessment of their level of performance at the end of each activity block, and they receive two written reports yearly. Parents can also discuss their children’s progress during the parents evening once a year.
