Home Economics
Over two periods a week in S2, Dornoch Academy’s Home Economics department focuses on practical cookery.
A variety of topics, from healthy eating and the Eatwell plate to the Scottish Dietary targets, are addressed.
As the focus is on health and nutrition there is a strong emphasis on building good practical food skills and the pupils learn how to safely prepare a variety of different dishes.
Work on how to provide non-ultra processed food, in financially sustainable quantities in later life is also a key aspect of the approach.
Links to local businesses and the real world careers available to those in the hospitality industry are evolving and strengthening year on year.
