Physical Education is essential to the growth and development of young people. Physical Education offers opportunities for the development of physical competences, social skills, fitness and a healthy lifestyle.
Underpinning all the aims of the PE Department is a strong emphasis on honesty, fair play and the importance of sportsmanship in all activities.

Higher
The Higher PE course consists of two units, the Factors Impacting Performance unit and the practical Performance Skills unit. Both these units must be passed in order to complete the course. In addition to these units pupils must prepare for, take part in and evaluate a One-Off Performance in the activity of their choice. This performance is worth 60% of the final PE mark, 40 of these marks are based solely on performance with 20 marks available for planning and evaluating your performance. The SQA Examination makes up the final 40% of your grade. The Exam lasts 1 hour and 30minutes and consists of 4 questions. Three of these questions are based on Factors Impacting on Performance, gathering data, model performers, training programmes and monitoring and recording progression in performance. The final question is a scenario based question where pupil must apply the knowledge learnt throughout the course to a specific scenario.
National 4
SQA National 4 Physical Education
The National 4 PE course consists of two units, the Factors Impacting Performance unit and the practical Performance Skills unit. Both these units must be passed in order to complete the course. This course is a Pass or Fail course. In order to pass pupils must complete an Added Value unit in which the must plan for and carry out a One Off Performance in the activity of their choice.
National 5
SQA National 5 Physical Education
The National 5 PE course consists of two units, the Factors Impacting Performance unit and the practical Performance Skills unit. Both these units must be passed in order to complete the course. In addition to these units pupils must prepare for, take part in and evaluate a One-Off Performance in the activity of their choice. This performance is worth 60% of the final PE mark, 40 of these marks are based solely on performance with 20 marks available for planning and evaluating your performance. Pupils will obtain the final 40% of their grade by completing a Portfolio which is sent to the SQA to the externally marked. This SQA course is graded from A-D.
