Head Teacher’s Message

Welcome to Dornoch Academy’s website. I hope you find all the information you require but if you would like further information please don’t hesitate to contact the school. We are a warm and caring school with a family ethos, and we are always happy to welcome new families who are about to join our community. We are also a hard working school with a strong focus on pupil attainment and achievement, and our young people are encouraged to work hard and achieve their aspirations.  Our curriculum rationale is focused and aspirational.  We work hard to provide a bespoke education for all young people in order to prepare them for learning, life and work.

Dornoch Academy’s letterhead and uniform badge use the ensigns-armorial granted to the school by the Lord Lyon King of Arms. It shows the horseshoe and stars of the Royal Burgh of Dornoch in the County of Sutherland, while the book and mitre trace schooling back to the 6th century foundation of St Finnbarr and a subsequent cathedral school. Our Gaelic motto is “Le Ionracas ’s Dìchioll” – with integrity and industry. While our past and aspirations are important, Dornoch Academy is more importantly a vibrant, progressive school preparing our pupils for a full and successful life in the 21st century, and supporting them to achieve their very best, preparing them for life, learning and work.

Kind regards

Mr Ross
